Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have become an integral part of everyday living. In a Special Education context it not only equips students with valuable technological skills, it can also allow them to become independent, critical thinkers and allow them to interact and participate in ways their disability may have previously not allowed for.
This site hopes to share my reasons for utilising ICTs in my Special Education classroom with learners diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These students are between the ages of ten and twelve and are working at varying levels from Foundation to Year 3.
ICTs in education allow even severely disadvantaged learners the ability to achieve success when used effectively. The right hardware, software and activities can help to even the playing field for these learners (Freedman, 2015).
I actively incorporate the use of ICTs in my classroom and encourage students to engage, explore and create utilising digital technologies. I encourage you, as parents and caregivers to come on this journey with us. This website is designed to show you how and why ICTs can help your child to learn.
